What is a Mini?

Mini sessions are quick, in-person or virtual team-building exercises to build connection, gain insights, and have fun. They are intended for groups of up to 14 participants and take 10–15 minutes minutes to complete.

Mini types

There are 3 Mini types to promote different types of sharing for teams to quickly connect and build trust over time.

Icon-Understand
Understand Minis help you learn key insights about how your teammates like to work.
Icon-Connect
Connect Minis help you understand and build trust with your teammates on a more personal level.
Icon-Play
Play Minis are designed just to have fun!

Preparation

Mini sessions require very little prep! From the Minis tab, you can spontaneously choose any Mini that’s available and run it with your group. To help narrow down your choices, you can filter by Connect, Understand, or Play.

If you like to prepare more in advance, you can use the “preview” feature to do a quick run through before your team session. While previewing a Mini session, if you think your team could benefit from some advance notice to think about the question, feel free to message your team ahead of time so they can start thinking about the topic.

Start a Mini and invite your team

When you’re ready, go to the Minis tab at app.risingteam.com/minis. Choose the Mini you’d like to run and click the "Start" button. On the start page you’ll see a QR code and session links to share with your team.

Remote session

To invite your team to the session, share your screen and ask your team to scan the QR code to join the session via their phones. If they would prefer to join the session on their laptops, you can copy the link and share it in the chat of your video meeting.

In-Person session

Once in the session, allow your team to scan the QR code on your phone. After logging into the session, each teammate can then share the QR code on their own phone with a neighbor to help expedite starting the session.

Follow the prompts

As team lead, it will be your job to read page instructions out loud to the team and letting them know when to move onto the next page. Follow the prompts on screen all the way through to the end. Don't forget to participate in the Mini yourself!

Keep an eye on time

On average, most teams finish a Mini in 15-20 minutes, but larger and more extroverted teams can take longer. To help keep things on track, screens with an interactive exercise use a countdown timer that is visible for a participant when it is relevant for them to either interact or share. Timers are always visible to the team lead, regardless if it’s their turn to interact or share. Timers are only a suggestion; you are welcome to spend as much or as little time on each screen as you like. If the Mini your team is doing together elicits a deeper conversation, try to give the team time to work through it.

Mini structure

Since Minis are designed to be quick and to the point, their structure is streamlined and uniform. You’ll find that most Minis have a single prompt for the team.

Hang tight

Share out

In addition to this core flow, every Mini has a quick single question survey at the end. We ask that everyone please complete this survey to finish the Mini. Additional comments are optional and welcomed!

View team and individual responses

Each Mini you complete with your team will involve a prompt related to the Mini’s theme. After the session is over, you can see individual results as well as a consolidated view of the full team anytime via the Team tab. Revisit these periodically and consider using them as a reference when talking with team members one-on-one.
